All of the different elements of our work - community, youth, education and professional commission - are brought together in two spectacular outdoor festivals organised and hosted by Surtal Arts.
SOUTH ASIAN ARTS FESTIVAL (SAAF) is a one-day outdoor music and dance extravaganza held in the summer. Here young people showcase their talents alongside professional arts, international and national. In the past artists have included Malkit Singh, Rajeev Chakraborty, Raghav, B21 and Jaz Dhami. Each year there is a new theme. 2011 will focus on the glamour of Bollywood cimema and is called 'Popcorn in the Park'! Find out more here.
FESTIVAL OF LIGHT is a Surtal Arts landmark project-festival. Held in late autumn (Oct/Nov) Surtal works with a whole host of schools and community groups to create beautiful and environmentally friendly willow lanterns! These are paraded to the beat of live drumming by young people, from Normanton to Derby Market Place where they are greeted with spectacular performances and an exciting fire display!
