Dancers, Drummers, Singers, MCs and DJs! You name it, the Urban Asia project has it all.
Made up of multi-talented young people from over Derby city, the Urban Asia project aims to provide a creative outlet, space for collaboration and platform for performance. It's a great way for youth with artistic aspirations to come together and share ideas, to learn with and from eachother and fuse their different styles to create performance pieces which are totally extraordinary.
We have seen some of the shyest individuals become fireworks on stage, and the artistic boundaries of many art forms being stretched to their limits. From break and hip-hop, to Bhangra and Bollywood dance; Dhol drumming to kit to djembe; MCs, Djs and singers....the Urban Asia crew always create something ground-breakingly entertaining!
Surtal Arts first set up Urban Asia in 2008, launching with support of legendary DJ Bobby Friction. Since then Urban Asia has held a fundraising event each year showcasing some of the best talent from Derby city, and its members have got the chance to work with artists such as Jalporte, XS-Bass, Lippicool and many more.
