gaia at derby cathedral

'Gaia at University of Bristol'

Luke Jerram’s  spectacular art installation, Gaia, will be at Derby Cathedral from 22nd September until 16th October 2022.

This wonderful installation stimulates thought over key issues of climate change, creation, and our place on the Earth.

In Greek mythology Gaia means the personification of the Earth.

Measuring seven metres in diameter and created from 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface, ‘Gaia’ provides the opportunity to see the planet in its entirety as it slowly revolves above the nave in Derby Cathedral, accompanied by a surround-sound composition by BAFTA award winning composer Dan Jones.

Gaia at Derby Cathedral is programmed in association with Derby Festé and is kindly sponsored by the University of Derby and Cosy Direct.  Derby Season Of Light and Surtal Arts are happy to help promote ‘Gaia’ to a wider diverse audience in Derby and beyond.

Entry will be free with a suggested entry donation of £3 per person. Donations will go towards the care and work of the city’s Cathedral, helping to keep its doors open for all.
