Description:
On Remembrance Sunday, Surtal Arts Community Choir Group will lead a reflective and calming choral performance in Normanton Park. The arrangements in South Asian languages and English, will commemorate the lives of soldiers, particularly South Asian soldiers, who lost their lives during WWI and WWII, fighting for the Briish Empire. It will mark the 75th Anniversary of Indian and Pakistan independence as we look to honour those lives also lost during the patrician of British India in 1947.

Dr Irfan Malik will present a very interesting research findings about his ancestry, and the discovery that both of his great-grandfathers were Indian Muslim soldiers who fought in WW1 alongside the British army. Sharing his story with BBC he said “I used to see the Remembrance functions happening and I didn't feel I could take part in them fully. But now I actually take part in fundraising for the Poppy Appeal and lay a wreath each year for Remembrance Day to remember my ancestors."

Everyone is welcome to attend this event. However, due to venue being small, places are limited. Please contact us (07986640448) if you wish to attend.
