2013, the year when our Festival of Light went digital!

Inspired by our annual lantern parade, Surtal Arts worked with artist Ashok Mistry to develop a special trail of virtual light sculptures around Derby, viewed using smartphones and tablet devices. The playful sculptures used augmented reality via the Layar app, to come alive in key spots around the city starting at Derby QUAD and even exploring the cultural areas of Normanton.

 

The light trail was accompanied by a specially commissioned soundscape by bamboo flutist Waqas Choudhary, heard alongside the visual display.
