Award-winning British Asian pianist and composer, Rekesh Chauhan BEM performs ‘Together’ a cross cultural repertoire that blends Indian classical ragas with western instrumental melodies creating new sounds that celebrates humanity and peace. It is a very special concert that concludes the Derby Season of Light 2024 festival as we reflect on the recent disturbances on our streets and the continuous wars around the world, Rekesh and his incredible fellow musicians will transport you to a place of love, peace, harmony and togetherness through their unique blend of piano, flute, vocal and tabla. As a composer Rekesh will put his unique contemporary twist on Indian classical music of raga.
He will be joined by Manjeet Rasiya on tabla and percussion and Rohan Roy on violin.
Manjeet RasiyaManjeet is a classical trained tabla player who has performed in several films such ‘Bride and Prejudice’. He has performed with Jagjit Singh and in Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, ‘Bombay Dreams’.
Rohan Roy
Rohan is a violinist specialising in world music - his music has been heard across both stage and cinema with collaborations including Kaushiki Chakraboty and the Bollywood movie 'Piku'.
Rekesh’s contributions to music and mental health has been recognised far and wide – from winning the NIAA Young Musician of the Year 2018, to collaborating with Nobel Prize and Grammy award winners, to touring some of the world’s most prestigious venues, and awarded British Empire Medal by His Majesty The King in 2023. As an iTunes World Charts Top 3 artist and inspiring TEDx speaker, Rekesh is a global talent, and he comes to Derby for the first time. This is one not to be missed.
