One of our most popular annual school workshops in Derby is the Lantern Making Project, delivered as part of the Derby Season of Light (DSOL) festival.
Each year, we offer subsidised workshops for local schools, where pupils create eco-friendly lanterns themed around light and climate action.
-
Led by professional artists
-
Uses biodegradable and recycled materials
-
Ends with a Lantern Parade through Derby
-
Involves 350–500 children and young people annually
This project is often oversubscribed — we encourage schools to register their interest by April each year to secure a place.
Artists, Artefacts & Practical Info
All our workshop leaders are experienced professionals with enhanced DBS checks.
We also hold a rich collection of culturally specific artefacts and costumes available for use during workshops — or on loan to schools to support independent classroom learning.
